Andrea Tate

Growing up in North Vancouver, I developed an eye early in life for seeing the beauty in the world. Vancouver is the perfect mix of beautiful urban architecture surrounded by nature, and that plays a key part in who I am today.

When designing, I am passionate about taking user problems and transforming them into seamless experiences, particularly ones that require a high degree of understanding and empathy with the user, problem solving, and fine tuning.

Before design, I worked in Visual Effects (Post Production for feature films & TV). My experience with 3D software and complex layouts in large digital environments has helped shape my ability to visualize designs from a broader perspective, as well reinforcing my capabilities for working in fast paced environments with lots of feedback from supervisors and clients.

When I’m not designing, you can find me either outdoors on a big trip.. or planning the next one. I adore looking at maps, studying rope systems and rescue techniques to improve my skills almost as much as I love putting them in practice in the field.

My ultimate goal in both career and life is to find beautiful ways to merge my two passions – design and the outdoors. I love bringing quality, uniqueness, and serenity to my designs, drawing inspiration from the mountains; and by the same token I find value in bringing the precision, focus and drive I have from design to rope systems high up on a mountain wall.
